Children Heart Link team (an NGO in Minnepaolis, USA) with medical volunteers from Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA, visited GKNM Hospital to promote children heart surgery.

GKNM Hospital’s pediatric heart surgery unit, operational since 2014, achieves a commendable milestone with approximately 450 annual surgeries and a mere 1% operative mortality rate. Since 2018, the hospital, in collaboration with Children Heart Link is dedicated to providing subsidized surgeries and enhancing post-surgery care for children with heart conditions.

Recently, four medical volunteers from Mayo Clinic including Dr. MiKel Nemergut, MD, paediatric cardiac anesthesiologist and intensivist;  Bri Miller, respiratory therapist; and ICU Nurses Erinn Erickson, and Kim Weiss, visited GKNM and shared their knowledge. The collaborative exchange resulted in 11 successful open heart surgeries, showcasing the fruitful sharing of knowledge and skills.

CEO Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy’s commitment to developing a center of excellence for pediatric cardiac care underscores the hospital’s mission to serve underprivileged children in Coimbatore and neighboring districts. The administration expresses gratitude to Children’s Heart Link and the Mayo Clinic volunteers for their vital contributions to advancing pediatric cardiac care at GKNM Hospital.
