TNAU – ATARI jointly inaugurated workshop for KVKs of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry

The annual Action Plan for KVKs of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry was jointly inaugurated by the Directorate of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore and ICAR – Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone X, Hyderabad on Wednesday. The workshop is being organized at TNAU from 29.03.2023 to 31.03.2023 to formulate the annual action plan.

The KVK scientists from all over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are participating in the workshop. During the workshop, the KVK scientists along with experts from various fields of agriculture, horticulture and animal sciences will discuss and formulate an annual action plan.

Murugan, Director, Directorate of Extension Education, TNAU, Coimbatore welcomed the gathering. He remarked that these three days, the KVK scientists are planning to discuss the ‘On Farm Trials and Front-Line Demonstrations’ and training on nine themes with different experts. The Programme Coordinators, Senior Scientists and Subject Matter Specialists of about 31 and Two KVKs from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry respectively participated in the programme.

The workshop was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of TNAU, Geethalakshmi. She requested the KVK scientists to focus on an action plan based on the recent issues at the farm level focusing on the stakeholders namely our farmers. She had special mention about Kalaignarin ‘All Village Integrated Agriculture Development Programme (KAVIADP)’ village programmes by the TNAU – KVK.

Shaik N. Meera, Director, ICAR – Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI) mentioned that, KVKs celebrating Golden Jubilee Year (1974 – 2023). He narrated the importance of Digital Extension, IoT, Value chain, usage of Artificial intelligence in agriculture, Drone application in Agriculture and also value addition for millet and products.

Rajakumar, Director of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha Fisheries University, Nagapattinam in his special address, mentioned that fisheries are Sunrising sector of India, under the Prathan Manthiri scheme it’s planned to double the fish production in 2025.

Apparao, Director of Extension Education, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences delivered a special address on the importance of Intensive Integrated Farming System.

Finally, Anandaraja, Professor and Head, Department of Training Division, TNAU, Coimbatore proposed a Vote of Thanks.
