Good times for now as court extends bail for Mallya

Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya appeared before the Westminster Magistrate’s Court today for the hearing of his extradition case. His attorney Claire Montgomery defended him and raised 4 objections to the extradition of the accused. Mallya’s counsel stated: Absence of a prima facie case (accepted as correct until proven otherwise), Extraneous considerations, (irrelevant to the subject), Abuse of process, Abuse of human rights.  Mallya’s counsel produced witnesses to prove the veracity of their objections while the prosecution produced several documentations and gave assurances to state that there wouldn’t be any violation of the accused’s human rights. Mallya’s counsel also said the Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail where Mallya would be put up if he is extradited has claims of human rights violation.  Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot, after hearing both the parties, extended Mallya’s bail till September 12, and also asked for a video of the Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail to the Indian representatives.

“The courts will decide in the end” said Mallya. It must be mentioned that on June 26, the liquor baron agreed to settle his loans the banks he has defaulted but the latter aim to collect the debt by taking over his properties in U.K.
