India registers 27,000+ cases on Sunday!

Despite bringing in various measures to reduce covid cases in the country, India registered more than 27,000 cases on Sunday, with Maharashtra contributing the highest numbers.

Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru had issued heavy norms but the movement of people continues. The Central Government has issued an advisory to States to increase surveillance.

On Jan 1, 2022Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to Chief Secretaries of all States/UTs on measures to deal with a possible surge in COVID cases; advised them to initiate process of setting up makeshift hospitals & constitute special teams to monitor patients in home isolation.

Delhi has witnessed a sharp increase in covid positivity rates but the Chief Minister of the State Arvind Kejriwal said that most cases are mild and the cases requiring hospitalization are low.

The New Year spirit has brought the people in Mumbai and Bengaluru to the streets throwing the covid norms away.

In Tamil Nadu the covid cases were recorded to be high. Sources reported that the new cases on Sunday were above 1500.

“Chennai and neighbouring Chengalpet accounted for the majority of infections with 776 and 146 cases respectively, while the remaining were scattered across other districts. Recoveries were less than half of the new cases with 624 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 27,05,034 leaving 9,304 active infections,” reported TOI

“On the Omicron cases, the bulletin said the total number of cases remained 121 while 98 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours leaving 20 active cases. Three cases have been notified to Kerala, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh,” it added.
