‘Gender Equity’ is the fairness of treatment for women and men, according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatment or treatment that is different but which is considered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations and opportunities.
An awareness program on this topic was held at Rathinam College of Arts and Science on Wednesday. Latha Sundaram, Founder, Aram Foundation was the resource person.
She spoke on the importance and need for Gender Equity especially among the students, and also spoke about the existing stereotypical treatment and gender bias towards women.
The program was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee and Gender Equity Club of the college. Professors T.M. Hemalatha and G.Arutgeevitha coordinated the event.
