We should immediately stop this pandemic: PM tells Chief Ministers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a special virtual meeting with several States’ Chief Ministers on Wednesday, and spoke much particularly about Covid-19 that is spiking in the country’s various regions.

He said that if this pandemic is not stopped now, it could lead to a nationwide outbreak. He said that as of now the virus is present in metro cities, the tier-1 and tier 2 cities, and it should not be allowed to enter the remote areas.

“We have to immediately stop the emerging second peak and take big and decisive steps,” he said.  He pointed out that the increase in Covid cases is seen more in certain areas than in other places. “We must focus on this issue. All states must focus on it,” the Prime Minister said.

To tackle the re-emergence of Covid in the country, he said that we as a nation need to keep up our medical infrastructure. “We must keep working to better our medical infrastructure and invest actively in things like ambulance networks, beds, etc., so that we can prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19,” PM Modi said.

The challenge of maintaining Covid appropriate behaviour in the general public was also discussed, in light of the recent rise in the number of cases in some states. The Chief Ministers agreed on the requirement of greater vigilance and monitoring of the situation.

The Home Minister listed out the districts on which the Chief Ministers need to put special focus, in order to contain the spread of the virus. The Union Health Secretary gave a presentation on the current Covid situation in the country and the vaccination strategy.
