TNAU takes Coconut Cultivation Technology to Tirupur Farmers

Coconut the predominate crop in Tiruppur which needs a lot of technological education especially in Fertilizer and Plant Protection Management.

ICAR – KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra), Pongalur, Tiruppur which is an associated institute of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) is engaged constantly in educating the farmers on Agriculture and allied technologies.

Recently KVK inaugurated a Certificate course in ‘Coconut Cultivation Technology’ for the benefit of Tiruppur District Coconut Growers. N. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore did the inauguration.

In his inaugural and presidential address, he underlined the importance of learning coconut production technologies.

He said that KVK is an Institute that is directly linked with farmers, wherein the field experiences of the farmers and technical guidance of the Scientists should go hand in hand to increase the production and productivity of the agriculture produce.

Jawaharlal, Director of Extension Education; Ananthan, Director (Open Distance Learning); Rajamanickam, Adjunct Professor (Coconut), Course coordinator, Open Distance Learning, TNAU, Coimbatore addressed the farmers.

Rajamanickam informed that this certificate course will enable the farmers to increase coconut production with scientific technologies and also insisted farmers to learn the various value-added products of about 80 marketable products for reaching the international market.

Study material of the course was released by the delegates. An exhibition was arranged by the KVK, Tiruppur by displaying the technologies of the University. 31 farmer-students belonging to Tiruppur district have enrolled with the payment of Rs.2500/ with a duration of six months.
