Risk of heart disease has reduced now

– Dr. P. Ramasamy, Assistant Professor of Cardiology, PSG Hospitals

It is good to see that the risk of heart disease has reduced in the recent times. At PSG Hospitals, we see a 20-30% decrease in admission of heart patients.

This is due to several factors. The first and most important of them is that when the nation was under lockdown, the access to junk and unhealthy foods were almost absent. This led a big change in the way we all ate. We learned to eat homemade food three times a day. Intake of meat got reduced and fresh vegetable and fruits were consumed more. The working hours were reduced and people had the opportunity to spend more time with their family, thereby decreasing stress levels of all.

All these led the change but this is only temporary. WHO’s report says that in 10 years, India will have the most number of heart disease cases. To make that false, we need to follow a healthy lifestyle.
