India bans 47 new Chinese mobile apps – Report

Indian Government has banned 47 apps that are developed by/originates from China on Monday. These apps have been acting as clones of the already banned 59  Chinese apps which were banned on July 1, 2020.

News reports say that more than 200 apps are being monitored  by Indian Government regarding their security and privacy status. If found to be a threat, these apps also could be banned. The detailed list of the apps that were banned today will be made available, soon.

Government of India banned more than 50 mobile applications that were developed by Chinese companies in early June of this year. Much used apps like Tik Tok, Share It, UC Browser, ES-File Explorer etc. are among the banned apps.

The IT Ministry had said in a statement that it had received complaints from various sources that certain apps in Android and iOS platform are “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India”, and hence this decision had been made.

“The compilation of these data, its mining and profiling by elements hostile to national security and defence of India, which ultimately impinges upon the sovereignty and integrity of India, is a matter of very deep and immediate concern which requires emergency measures,” the statement said. The statement said that this move will “safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace”.
