Government bans WeTransfer; website stops working

WeTransfer- Netherland based popular file-sharing website has been blocked in India as of June 1, 2020. The order came from Department of Telecommunication (DOT).

The reason is not specified in the order but what we know as of now is that DoT has stated that it is for the National Security and Public Interest. Users of the WeTransfer could send a file upto 2 GB directly to a mail id without even requiring to sign up.

The data-sharing company was reported to have acknowledged the severance of their site in India and spoke about it in their blog. “At this moment in time, WeTransfer seems to be blocked and unavailable in India. We are working hard to understand the reason behind this block as well as get it resolved as soon as possible”

As of now, Google Drive is one of the reliable sources for people to rely. This period is a time digital infrastructure and solutions providers are much needed, especially in the Internet based organizations.
