Gas Leak in Vizag claims 10 lives, affects more than 1000

An incident at LG Polymers Industry at RR Venkatapuram in Andhra Pradesh caused a gas leak on wee hours of Thursday. It has led to the death of 8 people so far and more than 1000 affected. The victims are being treated in King George Hospital in AP while a few are admitted in other private hospitals.

The gas leak happened at 3 a.m. and its impact has shocked people within the 3 km radius to it.  People who braced the impact near the area are reported to be facing breathing difficulties, skin rash and eye-sores. The police after coming to know about the details visited the location at 6 a.m. and launched an evacuation procedure. 7000+ people are being evacuated.

TOI-VIZAG reported that Vizag District Collector Vinay Chand rushed to the spot and is monitoring the situation. National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are in the process of helping the people. The impact has affected more than 1000 people. Videos of people falling unconscious was posted by the media.

DGP of Andhra Pradesh Damodar Goutam shared that the Gas has been neutralized and the police are investigating on the cause of the accident. Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy, CM of Andhra Pradesh will be visiting King James Hospital to meet the victims.

Prime Minister Modi spoke with Chief Minister Reddy and inquired the situation.

Srijana, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipality Commissioner  shared that based on the primary report that the leaked gas was identified as Poly Vinyl Chloride also  called Styrene. Harmful effects of this gas includes fatique, weakness, eye irritation, headache etc.
