Leadership is the key hails Kannan at SIMA

The 11th CEO Conference of the Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) TEXPIN focused on the theme “Textile Industry – Towards 2020” held recently.

M.Senthilkumar, Chairman, SIMA welcomed the gathering stating that, this is a unique conference which is organized in the aftermath of demonetization and GST. Though demonetization is a surgical strike on our economy, it was taken in the right perspective to curb black money, he said.

For the first time a single tax for the entire nation with seamless structure has been introduced. Though we could get the cotton textile value chain and all the job works classified under 5% GST, we have few key issues to be sorted out to create a level playing field in the globalized environment, said SIMA Chairman.

We would face lot more shocks and challenges in the next three years and we need to be fully prepared to mitigate them, he added.

P.Nataraj, Deputy Chairman, SIMA said that, the 1st CEO Conference during 1997 on the theme “Horizon beyond Spinning” paved the way for two flagship schemes Technology Up gradation Fund Scheme and Technology Mission on Cotton.

It also made concerted efforts to make both the schemes into reality and those schemes created a revolution in the history of Indian textile industry, he added.

He also stated that, TEXPIN is organized on different themes to prepare the industry to face challenges and for its survival.

The Chief Guest, T.Kannan, Managing Director, Thiagarajar Mills Ltd quoted Talleyrand’s famous quote stating that he would listen to “an army of 20 sheep’s led by a lion rather listening to an army of 100 lions led by a sheep”. Every company should have a proper leader who can lead from the front. The role of the leader has to be strategized and rehearsed only then it can be effectively played, he said to the CEO’s during the conference.
