Cbe Round Tablers restore iconic Clock Tower in Vadacovai

8 Round Tables of Coimbatore that took up the responsibility of completely restoring the Iconic clock tower in Vadacovai (North Coimbatore) Flyover area unveiled the restored icon to the public on 19.11.2019.

It was inaugurated by J. Sravan Kumar, Commissioner, Coimbatore Corporation. This clock tower was built by the Round Tables of Coimbatore in 1994 in a record time of just 45 days with the idea of creating an aesthetically appealing landmark in Coimbatore.

Over the last 1 year all the round tables of Coimbatore took their effort in this restoration with additional support from various sponsors and also took the support from Coimbatore Corporation. The tower’s restoration was successfully completed in November 2019.

At present 3 clocks sponsored by the house of Zimson have been installed. The 4th one is soon to be installed. The clock has a battery that will run for the next 10 years. All the clocks are GPS controlled Analog Clocks that will show the same precise time on all 4 sides.

The Tablers have also restored the Tower’s body structure which was worn out due to time. The clocks are exclusive and custom made. A total amount of Rs. 6 lacs have been spent on this restoration which the Round Tablers of Coimbatore take it as their pride and a commitment to Covai.

The Chief Guest J. Sravan Kumar lauded the Tablers who built and the Tablers who renovated this tower for exhibiting passion in this project. He said Coimbatore stands 1st in all the 11 smart cities in Tamil Nadu and the 5th best smart city in India.

He stated that Coimbatore is blessed to have such volunteering organization like Round Table. He added that the coordination and collaboration with NGOs and associations can assist the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation to meet the expectations of the people. He mentioned that currently Rs. 10,000 crores worth of projects are going on in Coimbatore and Rs. 1000 Crore worth of Smart city projects are going on. He said the Airport expansion plans are soon to take place as the issues around it are over and kept a full-stop.

He said business in the city will grow high and Coimbatore will see a wider and improved connection with the Western part of the world soon, which will generate business and job opportunities in the city.

Talking about the 24/7 Water Project he said, there are unnecessary rumors about it but when the project is launched for the use of people it will greatly bring down the mental agony of the people that is concerned with water supply.

Sravan said that there are less places of recreation where the people can go and have some activities. Lake restoration and rejuvenation is a major theme of Coimbatore. Smart City Project. He said that on Nov 7th a Government GO was received by the corporation which gives it the lease of Kurichi Lake for the next 90 years and the corporation has a Rs.52 Crore worth project which will focus the development of lake and its bounded area.

“Name anything, we are on it” Sravan Kumar said, about the plans the corporation has and is doing for the City. Acknowledging the enormous work RTI is doing for the people especially in the realm of educational infrastructure and construction of toilets for schools through its FTE Project in the rural and needy regions of Coimbatore, Sravan Kumar appreciated the Round Tables of Coimbatore.

Mentioning that Round Table is already pouring loads of good efforts, he requested them to take up similar projects like what they have done with the Clock Tower. “Smaller Interventions could mean a lot”, he said.

He welcomed Round Tables of Coimbatore to collaborate with The Corporation to join in elevating Coimbatore to an even smarter city.
