ITC WelcomHotel adopts Eco Friendly measures

ITC Hotels has adopted Responsible Luxury as part of its endeavor to proliferate a movement towards planet positive luxury experiences.

ITC WelcomHotel Coimbatore conveyed via a press statement that it has taken various measures to ensure reduction in carbon footprint and is LEED Platinum Certified.

The hotel has already taken a lead and replaced several single use plastic items from its daily operation. It has initiated the Zero Mile water plan, as it involves no transportation (zero emissions due to same) and is served in glass bottles, thus eliminating the use of Single-use plastic water bottles.

Over 99% of solid waste is either reused or recycled. This has helped WelcomHotel Coimbatore in gaining zero waste generation status by reducing, reusing and recycling the solid waste generated. As maximum waste is generated by food at most of the hotels, WelcomHotel Coimbatore converts its food waste into manure by in-house organic waste convertor machine. The manure is further used within the hotels for landscaping and in-garden areas and balance is handed over to educational institutions in the Coimbatore city.

The hotel has a separate waste-water treatment plant for grey and black water. Reutilization of treated water for flushing, cooling tower, landscaping and miscellaneous cleaning helps the hotels in reduction of water consumption. Also the hotel has installed Rain Water harvesting system.

It was mentioned in the press statement that the hotel has installed Windmills and Solar panels for generating electricity, thus helping in reduction of carbon emissions. The hotel also has adopted 100% LED lighting and installed several energy efficient systems such as heat pump instead of energy guzzling boilers to help eliminate carbon emissions.
