10,000+ PSG CAS students unite to spread cancer awareness

Aim for Limca Book of Records

To create awareness about any good thing, a great deed has to be undertaken. Breast Cancer has become the leading type of cancer to affect women, today. Awareness about it is sadly less among women in India. Experts say that majority of women with breast cancer come for consultation at stage 3 or 4, which makes it impossible to cure.

Since October is the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, PSG College of Arts and Science (PSG CAS) organized a mega Cancer Logo Formation event (which is a Limca Book of World Records Attempt) on 16.10.2019 through which it took the awareness of Cancer.

More than 10,000 students of the college assembled in the ground to form the logo, making the moment a huge eye-opener for the people of the city to talk, discuss cancer and be aware of it.

Around 6,500 girls out of the 10,000+ assembled students came in pink costumes and formed the core of the logo while the boys clad in white bordered them.

The Chief Guest Dr. Madulika Vijayakumar, Oncologist, PSG IMS&R addressed the students. She said that seeing so many young people come together for a common cause is phenomenal. She stressed that we as a society must break the stigma about breast cancer. She made use of the occasion to convey to the 10,000 students that earlier diagnosis of breast cancer gives better prognosis, and said women post 40 years should consult a doctor and get vetted about their health. She suggested them to even check with their regular family physician or a woman doctor if they find it uneasy to consult an oncologist.

The Guest of Honor Dr.J.S.Bhuvaneshwaran, Director, PSG Super Specialty Hospitals said that the day is one to be etched in the history of PSG CAS. He requested the students to take the message they have received to their friends and family.

Dr.D.Brindha, Principal of the college advised the students to follow a healthier diet and lifestyle. Touching upon the importance of physical exercise, she said that when the body has abundant oxygen supply in its system, it will fend off cancer cells and make it difficult for them to survive. She wanted them all to exercise 30 mins a day.
