Teachers present but students absent in tensed Kashmir

Primary level schools in Kashmir were slated to run today (19.08.2019) as per the administration in power over the region. Today was supposed to be a reopening day for 190 schools out of the 900 in Srinagar. However, private schools stayed closed due to security reasons despite relaxations in the restrictions were announced earlier.

The region is still witnessing military security actively deployed, as protesters continue to involve in acts of opposition. The public transport is less while private vehicles have reportedly seen a slight rise in movement. Teachers have turned up to the schools but the same cannot be said of the students.

Since August 5, several hundreds of schools in Jammu & Kashmir remained shut. Parents have expressed concerns over sending their children out to school as public transport is hardly normal.

As per sources, the schools that see a few students arriving are Police Public School at Bemina and a few Kendriya Vidyalayas. In towns such as Pattan, Palhalan, Singhpora, Baramulla and Sopore, there has been no relaxation of restriction and in other places public schools have been given permission to be opened.

Parents in Kashmir want their children to go to school but the present scenario in the newly made union territory has halted it for now. The decision to lower restriction in some parts of Jammu is being withdrawn, according to sources.
