TN falls to 9th rank, Kerala is No. 1

NITI Aayog Health Index June 2019 ranking released

National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog, “Healthy States: Progressive India” is a compilation of the state of health systems prevalent in the State/UTs of India, which is published in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and with technical assistance from the World Bank.

The Health Index highlights the progress reached by the individual States and UTs and is an important instrument in understanding the variations and complexity of the nation’s performance in health. It highlights the areas each State should focus on to facilitate improvement in overall health outcomes.

In the recently released rankings for 2019, Tamil Nadu ranks 9th among all the other states in India that were taken for evaluation. The decline in the overall Health Index score in Tamil Nadu is largely attributed to the decline in several health outcome indicators.

The Health Index is a weighted composite Index based on 23 indicators grouped into the domains of Health Outcomes, Governance and Information, and Key Inputs/Processes.

Kerala maintains its top no. 1 ranking, followed by Andhara Pradesh, Maharastra, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telegana, in the top 10 category. Of the 21 taken states, UP is at the least position.
