In latest research, it has been found out that cells in human body can take over the functions of damaged or missing insulin producing cells. This is an advanced method for those suffering with Diabetes. The disease is on the rise continuously and if experts are to be believed, India will soon become the Diabetes capital.
Most patients take insulin but researchers from University of Bergen, Norway found out that glucagon-producing cells in the pancreas can change identity and adapt so that they do the job for their neighboring damaged or missing insulin cells but this is limited to just 2 per cent.
Even though the percentage is very less yet it sounds like a big positive from a research point of view. During the study, researchers were able to increase the number of insulin producing cells to 5 per cent by using drugs which influence inter-signaling process.
