Did you know that every 8 minutes, a woman dies due to cervical cancer in India? Dr.Asha Rao, Medical Director, Rao Hospital conveyed on Monday that proper cervical cancer vaccination at the ages between 9 and 14 can certainly prevent this killer disease by 96 to 98%.

She shared this during the inauguration of Cervical Cancer- Preventive Oncology Department and launched the Colposcopy Unit, at Rao Hospital.  This is a joint project by Rotary Club of Coimbatore Aakruthi and the hospital, and this inaugural was done by Rotary International District 3201’s Governor Rtn. Jose Chacko.

Speaking at the event, Dr.Asha Rao said that every year around 1 lakh women get affected by this disease in India, and when no proper treatment is taken, 50% of the affected could perish.

She stressed that early vaccination and diagnosis can assist the patient in prevention of the disease much better.  As a part of the launch, awareness program on Cervical Cancer was held.

During the event, Rtn. Chacko highlighted that awareness about cervical cancer is the need of the hour, as the disease is lethal. He also shared that Rotary has done several health care projects in India, eradication of Polio being one of the most important of them.  Recently they have done much towards Covid relief, and he added that Rotary is currently thinking of providing support system for the vaccination.
