Leadership does not have a Gender

– Uma Maheshwari, Joint Managing Director, Ananya Shelters at  SRCW’s Women’s Day Celebrations

Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science for Women (SRCW) organized the Women’s Day Celebration 2020 in the college on Saturday. Dr.K.Chitra, Principal, SRCW presided over. Uma Maheshwari, Joint Managing Director, Ananya Shelters Pvt.Ltd was the Chief Guest of the morning session.

Dr.K.Chitra in her Presidential Address conveyed to the students that aspiring humans irrespective of gender will have to face a lot of challenges, and women by nature will have even more hurdles to jump than men. Since their role doesn’t limit to just one, she suggested them to compartmentalize their life and start multitasking.

The time that they enjoyed as their parents’ princess is soon to change with the evolving responsibilities; and she urged the young students to be prepared & gear up. One of the good job that women should do is to raise a child that is responsible. People suffer because somewhere in the world, someone didn’t raise a child responsibly.

Women today need physical empowerment (like self-defense, fitness), Financial Empowerment (individual savings for future) and Psychological empowerment (to not be hurt by what people throw at them) “Never ever feel that you are less than someone else; you all are good in your own way”, she said.

The Chief Guest, Uma Maheshwari said that women can aspire to be great but for that they don’t have to compare themselves with what men can do. Couple of decades ago, women thought, and was thought to be weaker than men in physical strength to do muscular works. “Technology has replaced that idea. Now with knowledge over technology, a woman can do any thing others do. They can be leaders if they aspire. Leadership doesn’t have a gender”, she emphasized.

“It is time that you took the steering wheel. We may fail but that is fine. We will learn in course of time about how to steer well. When we take leadership, men really admire us and count on us. Sometimes, the real critic of women are women.”, she said.

“Go beyond your academics, take freedom with confidence, responsibility and knowledge. An experiential knowledge will certainly give you confidence to handle everything. Learn to enhance your decision-making skills and make good decisions in life”, she suggested. Post her address, she gave away the prizes to the meritorious students.

Jayashree Mahesh, Fitness Therapist and Mrs.India Earth Classic 2016 and Sanjana Vijayakumar, MD& Co-Founder, Town & City Developers addressed the students and inspired them.
