Cochin Port is on the path of progress – M.Beena, IAS, Chairperson, Cochin Port Trust

The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore (ICCIC) and Cochin Port Trust  (CoPT) held a trade-meet in the chamber towers on 7.6.2019 to expose to the customers of the Cochin Port and members of the ICCIC about the facilities that are available via the Cochin Port Trust.

V.Lakshminarayanasamy, President, ICCIC welcomed the gathering.

M.Beena, IAS, Chairperson, Cochin Port Trust delivered the Keynote Address. “The association between Coimbatore and Cochin port is age old” she said. “The times we live gives us the message of change; the change for good. The growth the Cochin port sees is high and optimistic. We have seen 11% cargo growth in 2019. In fact I should tell you that we are seeing a 10% rise in cargo growth every year. Cruises from South Asia, Middle East and North Africa prefer Cochin Port”

She conveyed that the port will feature an International Ship Repairing Facility that is around 41 acres costing Rs.970 Cr. Along with that a 300 acre land will be leased for the development of business district.

There are plans to have Domestic cruises connect to Goa and we are even talking to have connections with Dubai.

Before concluding, she said “Cochin Port is on the path of progress and the co-operation and support of people especially from Coimbatore has been huge.”

Jimmy George, Sr.Deputy Traffic Manager, Cochin Port Trust conveyed that goods sent via Cochin route are in the safe-zone.  “Coimbatore is the most significant hinterland for Cochin Port. The EXIM traffic between Kerala and Coimbatore is steady. It must be mentioned that 25%of EXIM traffic in Cochin Port comes from Coimbatore.”

Praveen Thomas Joseph, CEO, IGTPL shared the many flexibilities customers could have when they do business with Cochin Port Trust. He said the waiting time for a scheduled vessel in Cochin port is zero and the port offers best connection to all terminals in east and west coastal India by weekly services.  Cochin port is an all-weather port that runs 365/24 with state of the art equipment and offers excellent connectivity to railway and National Highway. It even provides last minute connectivity and the ease of doing business is high”

Following this, there was a customer-interaction with the delegates in which the raised questions were clarified.
