Indians at Cannes Film Fest but No Indian Films this year

The Cannes Film Festival, one of the most prestigious International film festivals commenced on May 14th and concludes on 25th May. The mega event is taking place in Palais des Festivals convention center. 1,845 films around the world were submitted and 21 films have been selected for screening. These films compete for the coveted Palme d’Or Prize (Golden Palm).

One of the most anticipated movie of the year – Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by the celebrated director Quentin Tarantino is making its debut at the fest.

In the short film category, 4,240 entries had come out of which just 11 have been selected.  39 countries have sent their entries and the sad thing to Indians is it has no Indian made or Indian-starring film this year. It must be mentioned that in 2018, 4 Indian films debuted.

A.R.Rehman has attended the fest with his wife and there are many Indians over there participating and soon many Indian elite actors and actresses will participate for sure but there is no Indian as a member of the jury panel.
