TNAU organizes commercial plant tissue culture skill development training

A commercial plant tissue culture skill development training sponsored by TNAU and ICAR-NAHEP-IDP programme is being organized at the Department of Plant Biotechnology, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, TNAU, Coimbatore from June 26th to July 1st 2023. During the inauguration of the programme on June 26, 2023, Senthil, Director, CPMB&B& Dean (SPGS) indicated that plant tissue culture is the basic technique in Biotechnology which is essential for all plant transgenic techniques. The majority of the banana grown worldwide is the G9 tissue culture banana. There are a lot more avenues yet to be explored in economically important crops including endangered medicinal plants and encouraged the participating student entrepreneurs to venture into the plant tissue culture industry. Professor and Head, Department of Plant Biotechnology Kokiladevi welcomed the participants and introduced the trainer Er.Sabu Thomas from M/s.ELS Instruments, Bangalore has vast experience in setting up a commercial Tissue Culture lab.

This one-week training programme for 39 student participants is being organized by Meenkashisundaram and Rajagopal, Associate Professor, Department of Plant Biotechnology, TNAU, Coimbatore.
