No Grace Marks for those who took NEET in Tamil

Supreme Court has stayed the decision made by Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court to grant marks for the 49 poorly translated questions today. The hearing was chaired by Justice. Bobde and Justice. Nageswara Rao. The judges both expressed that awarding grace mark of this proportion will create chaos and will mislead the students.

“What will happen to the meritorious students? This is an all-India exam. And this is not some pass mark but a bonus of 196 marks. These grace marks are given even without taking into consideration that students may have gone wrong in their answers even if the translations were accurate,” said Justice Nageswara Rao . The judges scheduled the case to be re-heard after 2 weeks , in the meantime ordered the Directorate General of Health Services to recommence the medical admission in Tamil Nadu that was halted due to the High Court’s order. The judges suggested the CBSE to have an expert committee to oversee the translations of questions in regional languages. It should be noted that out of 1.2. lakh NEET candidates from Tamil Nadu 24,000 of them took the test in Tamil.
