Nation-wide indefinite strike of lorry operators could stun Tamil Nadu

Lorry owners associated with the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) have gone on a nation-wide indefinite strike from today. An estimated 65 lakh lorries is expected to be halted throughout the country. The demands from the AIMTC are removal of toll gates in National Highways and reduction of fuel prices. Over 4 lakh lorries operate in Tamil Nadu and their halt alone would cost the state to lose Rs. 250 crores a day. 3 lakh lorries did not operate today in Tamil Nadu and the rest of the lorries that have been en route to other states prior to the commencement of the strike are returning to participate in this indefinite strike. This could lead to hike in the price of groceries and would affect the common man highly.
