I want to serve the Poor

Having scored 458/720 in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test which was conducted on 6th May, 2018 Kavi Vidyarth is on Cloud nine. He has already published a book of poems titled “My Word My World”. The 19 year old lad who will soon be joining classes at Coimbatore Medical College was all smiles speaking to The Covai Mail at his Maniyakarampalayam residence near Ganapthy. We asked him a few quick questions to know more about his dreams and ambitions. Talking about his childhood dream, he honestly admitted to being dreamless until he reached 4th Grade. “On reaching Grade 4, I started dreaming about becoming an IAS officer or a Cardiac Surgeon but in course of time I clearly set my aim at becoming a cardiologist. I began working diligently towards my aim right from the 8th Grade and even before I completed my schooling, the Government introduced NEET for those wanting an MBBS seat,” he said.

When asked how confident he was during his first attempt of NEET, he described that he had been hopeless the moment NEET was introduced. The marks scored (246) by me were very poor meaning getting an MBBS seat was Buckley’s chance. He stumbled a bit thinking my dream of becoming a cardiac surgeon had come to an end. Kavi infact joined Annamalai University and got admitted in BSC Agriculture. But, he found out soon that his interest lay in the field of medicine.

Then he started preparing for NEET full time, working harder than ever and it was the results of the efforts taken by him for six long months that have made him stand out today among the crowd. When asked if he supported the introduction of NEET, the clever boy shot back quickly saying, it was good that the government had introduced NEET because it helped us gain wider knowledge prior to entering a medical college. Since the core medical study of MBBS revolved around Anatomy, Chemistry and Physiology, hence one were thorough in all of these it would be easy to clear MBBS exam. There were students who get 190 or 200 cut -offs and yet they were struggling to complete their first year MBBS papers because they lacked the basics.

Talking about his schedule of study, he said that preparations for his dream began from 8th Grade itself. He followed a time table of 20+10 wherein he studied for 20 minutes and took a break for 10 minutes for relaxation. He then downloaded questions from the Internet for the next 30 minutes to work out the problems relevant to what he had studied for 20 minutes. Speaking about his future goals he said, “I want to complete MBBS in first class. I aim to clear NEET in first class, come in the top 100 list of candidates in Tamilnadu and then go in for MD or MS depending on my ranking.” Coming to choosing of the city and college he said Coimbatore is my turf and I feel comfortable; that’s the reason I didn’t think of going overseas. Gratitude is the mother of good attitude.

In his message for budding doctors, Kavi Vidyarth said, “They should definitely join coaching institutes; co-operate with them and work hard. Constant effort from their side is the only pathway for success.”

The young lad ended the conversation with us by expressing his gratitude to mother Krishna Veni, father, Dr. Kavidasan, elder brother Kavi Scidarth and last but not the least all his teachers for their constant support and guidance.
