Panama Papers: ED summons Aishwarya Rai!

Actress and fashionista Aishwarya Rai has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on Monday to appear before it.

Aishwarya is one of the, at least, 300 Indians’ named in the controversial Panama Papers, and many leading news portals reported that she may have been asked to appear in this regard.

Millions of documents bearing details about the persons who have stashed cash abroad by setting up offshore accounts or shell companies to avoid taxes were stolen and leaked to the media in 2016.

Aishwarya and her father-in-law Amitab Bachchan were named in the leaked documents. In 2017 the ED started investigating the foreign exchange violations, and it had sent summons to them to explain their foreign fund transfers. Reports from the media stated that she has been called to record her statement now and Aishwarya has reportedly asked for more time to appear before the ED.
