PSG Hospitals to raise awareness on issues of maternal and newborn safety

17th September, 2021 is celebrated as ‘World Patient Safety Day’. For this year the World Health Organization has propounded the theme ‘Safe Maternal and Newborn Care’. It has urged all the stakeholders to “act now for safe and respectful childbirth”. PSG Hospitals is joining this event as an important stakeholder for this task.

In a press release issued by the organization, the Chief Quality Manager Dr D Vijaya, mentioned that a talk on FM radio is being planned to raise awareness on issues of maternal and newborn safety, particularly during childbirth.

Dr.S Karthikeyan, Medical Superintendent said that departments such as Dietetics Yoga and Physiotherapy will display various posters on the theme and educate the public on its contents. In the outpatient clinics of the OBG department, consultants will provide special training sessions on antenatal care said Dr Rajkumar, the Medical Director of the hospital. At the same time, the antenatal mothers will also be educated about the causes and means to avoid fetal anomalies he added.

Dr. J. S. Bhuvaneswaran, Director of PSG Super Specialty hospitals, said that, on that day, the Departments of Physiotherapy and Yoga will be conducting a free live demonstration on abdominal exercises that will help in a normal child birth. The Dietary department would also chip in and engage the public on the nutritional importance during pregnancy.

Dr. T.M Subbarao, the Principal of the institute said that the highlight of the event would be a training to be imparted by the Physiotherapists to mothers who have recently delivered, on effective neonatal care especially with regards to handling, mobilization and breast feeding.

The Dietetics department will teach the lactating mothers on Galactagogues, which are specialized dietary needs to enhance lactation. All these events are scheduled to be held on the 17th September 2021, and the public especially antenatal mothers and lactating mothers are requested to make use of these free training programs arranged in the PSG hospitals. Soon after arrival at the PSG hospitals they may contact the front desk and go to the respective venues to make use of this program.
