Who is your favorite female character from your film?

I would say Maya and Jessie, but indeed the closest to my heart is Maya. It’s been 15 years since was Kaakha Kaakha released, now I regret killing the character Maya in the movie.

What makes your villains so special?

While writing the script itself, I had always found it hard to create a role for the villain, because I believe that there are no bad people in real life. So, with an extra effort I create my Villains in a natural way and tries to portray them with realistic emotions. That is why audiences tend to get attracted to those characters. If it had been faked, then it would have looked artificial. As a creator you should make the audience realize that Villains too have feelings and that it is situations that make them bad.

What is your secret mantra behind creating so many love based movies, that too with different styles?

Many people often ponder and ask me the reason behind having a voice over in my films. That itself is due to the inspiration of the movie ‘Shawshank Redemption’, where the lead character of Morgan Freeman will talk throughout the movie. I was so inspired by that. So I use that in my films.  Likewise I was inspired by many kinds of emotions and inspirations based on love. So, whatever I have done all these years was because of those inspirations. I just write what the script demands and I simply go with the flow with my inspirations. But now I am trying to venture into new areas. Even Thuruva Natchathiram is one such initiative, I have tried a new angle.

What is your stand on Kamal Hassan’s Political Entry?

Being his fan, I strongly feel that it is his freedom to express or do whatever he feels right. No one can comment about it. But, as a director I would request Kamal Sir to continue acting. I have worked closely with him and, most importantly, no can deny the fact that he is a great actor. So he should never quit acting.

Is Madhavan doing the lead in VTV 2?

There has been speculation in the media saying Madhavan is doing the lead in Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya 2. But there is no such thing. We haven’t even decided what kind of role he is going to play and I feel it’s too early to talk about it.
