TNAU bags Overall Outstanding Contribution Award for Excellence in Mushroom Research

The All India Coordinated Research Project on Mushroom is functioning at the Department of Plant Pathology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore under aegis of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) since 1983.

Research activities viz., Collection and development of mushroom varieties of oyster, milky and butter mushrooms; technologies for medicinal mushroom cultivation; extraction of natural dyes and identification of biomolecules from mushrooms; intercropping of paddy straw mushroom in different cropping systems and outdoor cultivation of paddy straw mushroom in coastal ecosystem of Tamil Nadu are being conducted.

TNAU is also imparting monthly one day and five day training programmes on mushroom cultivation to farmers, woman self-help groups, educated youths for developing entrepreneurship. For the significant achievement in these field of research and development, TNAU has been recognised and awarded with Overall Outstanding Contribution Award at National Level by the Directorate of Mushroom Research, Solan of ICAR.

The Vice- Chancellor of TNAU, N.Kumar appreciated and motivated the scientists to expedite intensive research on mushroom to achieve much greater heights in the coming years.
