Prem Kanna, the HoD of HICAS’ Department of Catering & Hotel Management said “We are really glad to receive this recognition. We are constantly striving to deliver the best overall hotel management exposure to our students.”

This Catering & Hotel Management Department at HICAS was started in 2004. Understanding the fast-evolving pace of the hospitality sector, the department revises the curriculum to give students the best in class education and training so that they will be industry-ready even before they clear the final exams.

Prem Kanna says “In the final year of the program, our students will have to do a 90-day internship. We send them to some of the best hotels here, and our students get exposed to the real-life hospitality scenario, utilize the knowledge they have received in the college and shine there. They develop good networks there, and many of them get placed there as well.”

“Our College’s management has provided us with the best infrastructure that is on par with star hotels.  We have exclusive catering and hotel management facilities in our campus including Modernized and well-equipped training kitchen,  Centrally air-conditioned restaurant & Bar, Front Office Lab with wooden Interiors, Modernized housekeeping lab which resembles the star hotels guest rooms, Well equipped Bakery & Confectionery Lab, Quantity training kitchen equipped with ranges & deck oven, etc.”

“Our seasoned faculty add tremendous strength in delivering quality education in this area. Approximately, more than 800 students have passed out from our department. 40-45% are abroad working in hotels and have even opened their own establishments there, whereas 20% are entrepreneurs in India, and the rest are working in hotels in various capacities”

“We tell our students that their opportunities don’t just remain in the hotels; we tell them ‘wherever there is hospitality there shall be the best opportunity!’  Our students have gone beyond the usual boundaries. Some of our students worked in hotels for some time, and they went to their hometown, made some survey of what are the vegetables that the hotels require day-to-day, and they have cultivated that in a portion of their father’s farmlands after doing proper soil testing and other analysis. We are proud that our students have turned into farmers and entrepreneurs.  Some of them have diversified even into entertainers at Hospitality sectors.”
