KMCH Vein Clinic becomes first in Covai to introduce ‘VenaSeal’ treatment for varicose veins

When the blood vessels that take impure blood to the heart from the leg become enlarged, they can result in several problems. They commonly start as ugly looking large blue color blood vessels, which further continues to change the color of our foot to a darker shade and finally results in swelling and the formation of ulcers, which can make it very difficult to continue normal activity.

For a long time, the only treatment option available was surgery where the abnormal blood vessels were surgically removed. However, the last 20 years has seen a revolution in the treatment of varicose veins through pinhole procedures.

At KMCH Vein Center Dr. Venkatesh and his team specializes in the treatment of varicose veins without surgery. To ensure that the latest technology was available for this condition, KMCH introduced the Vein Clinic and has been functional for more than 15 years where more than 2000 cases has been successfully treated through a technique called Radiofrequency Ablation.

In this treatment, a fine electrical cable used purely for this form of treatment is inserted into these veins and a current is passed across the whole length of the abnormal vein to ensure closure of this abnormal blood vessel.

Although this procedure is far superior to surgery, it involves multiple injections, which can be painful and further the patient would have to wear specialized stockings, which at times is uncomfortable, especially in summer.

All over the world, the past few years saw a change in the treatment of varicose veins by injecting a specialized glue into this abnormal vessel, which had several advantages, one the procedure requires just one single injection, secondly it requires a much shorter time and finally there is no need for a compression stocking enabling the patient to get back normal function immediately following the procedure.

Under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance, an extremely fine tube is inserted through a small needle puncture at the level of the knee joint. The tube is then navigated across the length of the vein and then a medical grade glue is injected along the entire length of the vessel. This glue instantaneously obliterates the vein permanently, which in turn takes away the symptoms that are caused by varicose veins.

The procedure called Venaseal is currently available in a few centers across the country and KMCH is proud of Dr. Venkatesh and his team for introducing this for the first time in Coimbatore. The procedure will go a long way in helping people with varicose veins to lead a normal life, one must remember varicose veins is most common in people who have jobs requiring long hours of standing like police personnel and thus getting them back to normalcy is of vital importance.

Dr.Nalla G.Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH said “ We are immensely proud to introduce this novel procedure VenaSeal in Coimbatore. KMCH always has been a pioneer in introducing advanced medical technologies and procedures to this part of the country to help patients live hale and hearty life. He congratulated Dr.Venkatesh and his team for being instrumental in bringing this technique here.”
