SREC alumnae take the plunge into entrepreneurship; launch Start-Up

After successfully nurturing two start-ups, Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (SREC) hosted the launch of Tectzo Solution Pvt Ltd – the third start-up that was groomed by it.

The founders of the start-up are alumnae of SREC – Abarna, Niveda and Monisha belonging to the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation. With the guidance from their alma mater and Prof. Thirukkuralkani (who is also a co-founder of the start-up now) they took part in India Innovation Challenge Design Contest, organized by Texas Instruments, Ministry of Science and Technology and IIM, Bengaluru in 2018.

By coming 4th in the contest, the team received a grant of Rs 25 lacs. Today the trio and their mentor have taken that experience to the level of becoming entrepreneurs, and have created 3 products under the start-up.

D.Lakshminarayanaswamy, Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust did the inauguration of the start-up at SREC Incubation Facility. Ganesh Kumar, Chairman, CII Coimbatore Zone launched the new products of the start-up.

India needs innovations like these

Speaking at the event, Ganesh said Innovation comes from new idea and by taking a product and refining to its optimal use. He added that the students have done wonderfully well. They have taken a proven product and made it better. He applauded the management for providing support in the aspiration of the students towards innovation and entrepreneurship. He also said that for India to become a self-reliant nation, more projects like these are needed.

Ready to support more

D.Lakshminarayanaswamy congratulated the Co-founders of Tectzo Solutions. He said that he is very happy to note that three of the co-founders are women. He pointed out that the 3 products – Smart Thermal Sanitizer, Static Voltage Regulator and Automatic Water Level Controller – were made in a very short duration.

“The challenge for women entrepreneurs lies in crossing the threshold, overcoming the barriers and discovering their potential and identity”, he stressed. He also conveyed that the management is very happy to support more innovative ideas and startups.

Nurturing the start-up further

N.R.Alamelu, Principal, SREC conveyed that IIM,Bengaluru had provided them incubation support for 1 year. In that period, they shared that apart from technical knowledge, the budding entrepreneurs would need to know about market viability, commercialization, raising funds and gain business exposure. These were provided to the co-founders of the start-up in Bengaluru.

She also added that the college has provided them working space at its Incubation center, where they can use the college’s incubation facility for a year, get matured as entrepreneurs, gain confidence to venture forward and grow as a separate entity.

Prof. Thirukkuralkani said that after their experience at India Innovation Challenge Design Contest; they started to develop their products. He added that they initially made market feasibility study and how to make their product reach the customer. The Static Voltage Regulator is available in two versions- one for B2C and other is B2B (for Industries). All the other products are B2C. He shared that many orders have been placed already.

Abarna, Niveda and Monisha, the CFO, CEO and CTO respectively said that they are benefited by the management’s support, and in future they will unveil updates for their products. They also said that they will surely consider hiring alumni from SREC to their startup.
