Apart from engaging in the online-teaching classes for students during this pandemic period, the professors of Nilgri College of Arts and Science in Pandalur, Nilgris are involved in a novel effort to promote organic farming in the college campus and areas that belong to the college management.
The initiative, called ‘Mission Positive’ began on June 2020 on 25 acre campus. The initiative is taken up keeping in mind the guidelines and adhering to all the directions of the health officials.
The volunteering faculty are engaged in producing paddy, varied tubers, fruits, lentils and vegetables through organic farming technique after the teaching hours. This initiative generates fund support for the college which are given back as salary for the faculty and staff, while also creating opportunity to encourage organic farming to the nearby community.
Understanding a lot better about the value of agriculture, the college has announced that they have plans to introduce agriculture as a subject to their college students in the future.
