International honor for DJ Academy alumna

Anagha Narayanan who studied design at DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore from 2014 to 2018 has been announced by the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SOTA) as the recipient of the 2020 SOTA Catalyst Award. She is currently working on her first typeface release Ilai.

The Society constituted SOTA Catalyst Award in 2010 to recognise one person every year, world-wide, who is 25 years of age or younger and who demonstrates significant achievements and future promise in the field of typography.

After completing her Graduate Diploma in Communication Design in 2018 from DJ Academy of Design (DJAD), Anagha joined Universal Thirst Type-foundry where she has been able to contribute to a diverse range of projects and scripts.

Ilai, one of the first variable Tamil typefaces, is a modern interpretation of 60’s psychedelia. It takes Tamil into new territory by offering nine styles of uncompromisingly quirky forms. It is designed for display uses, including branding, subheadings, and posters.

It must be mentioned that Anagha Narayanan is the third recipient of this award from DJ Academy of Design, Coimbatore after Siva Nallaperumal in 2015 and Ramakrishna Saiteja in 2017.
