PSG Hospitals help 6 cops recover successfully from Corona

The Government of Tamil Nadu had instructed the Local Administrations to test the Police officials, Sanitation Workers and members of the Press and Media who were serving the society during the Lockdown period.

15 days ago, the Coimbatore City Police were subjected to COVID-19 test, as per Govt orders. During the test 6 policemen were found to be affected by the novel coronavirus. They were treated at PSG Hospitals. On Tuesday (5.5.2020), all the 6 recovered successfully, got discharged and went home. District Collector of Coimbatore K.Rajamani, IAS and Commissioner of Coimbatore City Police Sumit Charan IPS greeted them with bouquet and fruits, and cheered them in the presence of Dean of PSG IMSR Dr.Ramalingam and Director of PSG Super Speciality Hospital Dr.J.S.Bhuvaneshwaran.

The Covai Mail learned through Dr.J.S.Bhuvaneshwaran that all the 6 cops were between 30 to 50 years of age. All 6 who were tested positive were asymptomatic. The cops come in contact with large number of people on a daily basis and in their exposure to the public, they could have come in contact with some COVID-19 patients without even knowing them to be such. They have now healed. For additional safety, they have been advised to be under 14 days home-isolation. After that, they can engage in regular work. Protein rich food were given to them during their treatment. We need to really salute them for their service because despite the challenges, they go serving the people and keep up the stability of order in the district.

When asked about what kind of treatment was given to the cops, Dr.Murali, Dept of Infectious Disease and member of the COVID-19 Taskforce at PSG Hospitals said that as the 6 patients were all asymptomatic, they didn’t require Corona treatment. However they had comorbid factors. Some had diabetes, hypertension, one had done by-pass surgery, so regular medicines for that were given. Now that they have recovered, they can go about their usual work after completing the home-quarantine period. He said COVID-19 could become serious in a person based on their age, comorbid factors, the duration of contact with an infected patient and the viral-load (the quantity of virus that enters a person).
