63% COVID-19 fatality occured in 60+ age groups in India – Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry of India said on Monday that 63% of the 109 deaths in India due to COVID-19 came from people in the 60+ age group. On the other hand, in the analysis of COVID-19 patients in India it was found that 42% affected belong to the 21-40 age category, 33 % to 41-60 age group, 17 % are above 60 years group and 9% are between 0-20 years. While the impact is mostly on the youth, the fatality occurs in the elderly.

India Today metioned the Union Health Ministry’s Joint Secretary Lav Aggarwal saying that 73% of COVID-19 deaths have been reported in men, while 27 % of the deceased are women. As of Monday (April 6, 2020), the total number of COVID-19 cases were at 4,281, while the death toll was 111.
