Public makes generous donations to PM-CARES Fund

Celebs & Industrialists join for charity 

Prime Minister Modi announced that the Central Government has formed PM-CARES (Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund yesterday (28.3.2020). He appealed to the citizens of India to contribute to this fund so that it could be used to support the nation during terrible times such as this pandemic and “other similar situations if they occur in the times ahead”.

All India Radio’s website ‘newsonair.com’ reported that PM will be the Chairman of the Trust under which the PM-CARES Fund will be collected. Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister of India will be the members of this trust. 

PM mentioned in his Twitter account that the PM-CARES Fund accepts micro-donations too. There has been a good response from the public, celebrities, Industries and Corporations towards this initiative. 

Tata Group has contributed Rs. 500 Crore, Reliance Industries announced Rs. 500 crore support, Bharti Enterprises volunteered to give Rs.100 crore.

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar pledged to contribute Rs.25 crores from his savings. Indian Cricketer Suresh Raina gave Rs.52 Lakhs, Online payments platform PhonePe pledged to give Rs.100 Crores, IAS Association decided to contribute Rs 21 Lakhs, Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan pledged to donate Rs. 30 Lakhs, Central IPS Association sponsored Rs.21 Lakhs, online stock trading group Motilal Oswal Group pledged Rs.5 crores, IRTS Association sponsored Rs. 5 Lakhs, PAYTM said it is aiming for a Rs. 500 crore contribution. Airport Authority of India employees made a Rs.20 Crores contribution, JSW Group pledged Rs. 100 crores, Pradeep and Pankaj Rathod of Cello Group amde Rs.3.5 crores donation. BCCI pledged to contribute Rs.51 crores.  President of India Ram Nath Kovind pledged to donate his 1 month salary to PM-CARES Fund.

Some of the interesting donations came from the common folks of India. A student named Sahil Gulia cotributed Rs.1000 and shared it with the PM saying “being a student, did my small bit for supporting your move towards helping the nation tackle the current situation due to corona” 

Another youth paid Rs.501 and tweeted “just a little donation for Narendra Modi Ji for PM Cares to fight coronavirus. The man’s kindness moved PM Modi and he replied “there is nothing big or little. Every Contribution matters. It shows our collective resolve to defeat COVID-19”

Two school kids Kavya and Chaitanya Khandelwal contributed their entire savings Rs.19,090 and Rs.13,378 respectively.
