SRCAS organizes Freshers’ Day 2019

Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts & Science, Coimbatore organized the Freshers’ Day for its 33rd Batch of UG Programs (Commerce & Management) in the college auditorium. First year Students of the college along with their parents attended the event.

C.V.Ramkumar, CEO, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, presided over the event while Dr.Jayanthasri Balakrishnan, Academician and Motivational Speaker acted as the Chief Guest.

Dr.S.Deena, Vice Principal, SRCAS welcomed the gathering. She conveyed that the college has enriched curriculum,Technical Teaching and Learning process, International Exposure and Practical Life Skills to make everyone who enter the college unique.

Addressing the students, she said ” This year, our college’s theme is Stars.You all have the strength,patience, passion to reach for the stars” and welcomed them once again.

Dr.K.Karunakaran, Principal, SRCAS in his address congratulated the students and parents for choosing the best college in Coimbatore.

He highlighted the laurels the college has achieved in its 33 year long journey that has become possible with the magnanimity of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, chief among them are being in the top 200 arts and science colleges out of the 19,000 in its class in India, securing an ‘A’ grade from NAAC and obtaining a STAR college status from DBT.

“Our curriculum focuses on Future skills and enhancement of four Cs – Creativity, Communicative Ability, Critical Thinking and Collaborative Skills.”, he said.

He extended that the college has Industry affiliations in not just placement related activities but for academic purposes too. “Globally renowned companies such as Google, IBM, TCS, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj etc come here to teach subjects.”

He said Smartphones are thought to be a weapon, we see it as a tool to change. We use it positively to enhance students’ knowledge”

To put the college’s vision in a nutshell, he said they have restructured the college to give importance to future skills students need.

“Opportunities here are endless and your time here is priceless. You are all youths, the way you utilize the 3 years will define the life ahead of you. The Brave and Aspiring youth can bring a change in the society.

Your education is not for just yourself but for the benefits of society. We dont want you to be just ordinary. I want you all to be extraordinary individuals”, said Karunakaran. On a final note he requested the parents to continue maintaining a graceful grip on their children.

C.V.Ramkumar, CEO, SNR Trust conveyed his wishes to the parents and students and assured that the college will surely fulfill their expectation in delivering quality education. He asked the students to not think about the past, nor worry about the future but focus on the present and take care of it

The Chief Guest in her address first addressed the parents and stressed that the role of parents in their children’s lives have to be extended even after commencement of the college lifetime.

She said “We (parents) are a disclaimer society. We wish to withdraw our responsibility once we have sent our children to schools and colleges. Hold their hands even when they step inside college but when the time is right, set them on their journey, give directions and be a guide. Dont always control them. Dont raise them in their comfort zones. Let your kids know your hardships so that they learn to become selfless and responsible”

She asked the parents and teachers to exhibit friendliness but maintain that firm grip. “Your children can get many friends and peers but only you (parents and teachers) can express sternness and softness. So be friendly but dont turn into a friend.”

Talking about the opportunities and distractions in a student life, she said ” You should know your value and where you place your skills and values matters. In that regard you have landed yourself that in a very nourishing place.

At the same time, it is tough to be an 18 year old today as the impact of society and fellow friends are high. You have lots to fear but I tell you- face your fears and walk past that.”

Following her speech, parents and freshers gave their feedbacks on how positively charged the speech has made them feel.

The introduction of Deans and HoDs to the parents and students ensued.

All the first year students took a pledge stating that they will follow the regulations of the college, devote their attention towards education, obedience and passion to serve the society with dedication and take the value of the parents and college to great heights.

Shanmuganatha Vadivelu, Dean, School of Commerce proposed the Vote of Thanks.
