Pricol dismisses employees who fail to turn up to work

Coimbatore District Pricol Workers’ Union, an affiliated body of All India Central Council of Trade Union (AICCTU) has been protesting against their employer for several reasons.

Pricol generously signed tri-party agreements in 2012 and 2014. The last one came to  an end on 30.06.2018 and discussions were on to formulate a new tri-party agreement with the unions from 29th March’18 onwards.

However, from 21.08.2018, a section of the members of AICCTU union went on an indefinite strike which was timed perfectly during festive season.

Pricol, as per its contract of employment conditions, retained as much employees as possible in the Coimbatore plant and shifted a portion of them to plants outside Coimbatore.

A few of the transferred employees have already commenced work in their transferred locations while the rest have not responded to any of the management’s written appeals to them for the past 75 days. Therefore, Pricol had no other option but to dismiss them from the services w.e.f 11th February 2019 as per their contract of employment conditions and statutory guidelines.

However, Pricol is ready to reconsider their dismissal order on humanitarian grounds if these workmen are willing to resume duty (with a written consent letter to the management) at their allotted location within 7 days from now.
