Complicated surgery successfully done to fix severed fingers

Despite delayed arrival of the patient, Ganga Hospital saves his arm.

25 year-old Chinese Engineer, who suffered amputation of his two fingers at Aurangabad, Maharashtra, while installing machinery at a new plant, got his index finger and thumb reattached with the help of the excellent team of doctors at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore.

Dr.S. Raja Sabapathy , Chairman, Department of Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Microsurgery and Burns Team, Ganga Hospital said Gau Rong, is a Chinese Engineer who came to install machinery at a new plant in Aurangabad. He specializes in installing machines which make drills.  While at work he met with an accident.  His left index finger tip and the thumb tip were totally amputated.  He was rushed to a local hospital and was seen by Dr. Jiten Kulkarni, a senior plastic surgeon.

The doctor told the patient and the company that they had the best chances of success if they could make it to Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore. Unfortunately they missed a flight that was leaving to Mumbai. They drove the distance of 230 km to Pune.  From there they booked commercial flight to Coimbatore via Chennai. When he reached Ganga Hospital, it was almost 22 hours from the accident. The plastic surgical team led by Dr.Hari Venkatramani received the patient and immediately got to work.  One team started examining the amputated part while another team got the patient ready for surgery. In an operation lasting 3 hours we were able to successfully reattach the index finger.
