VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science (VLBJCAS) in association with Yi Yuva Health Vertical and Women Empowerment Committee and with Student Welfare Committee of VLBJCAS organized an awareness program on “Mental Health and Substance” on Friday.
Dr.Naveen Kumar, Psychiatrist & Consultant, Manam Behaviour Medicine Clinic, Coimbatore, was the keynote speaker. He explained what is mental illness and how mental health includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being. He discussed the features, symptoms, causes and recovery measures of mental illness.
Dr. Naveen insisted students to realize abilities, learn well and work well and contribute to their community. He stated how individual psychological and biological characteristics helps to increase a person’s susceptibility to mental health issues. Furthermore he concluded how the above mentioned factors include emotional intelligence, substance abuse, and heredity. He discussed about behavioural disorders due to psychoactive substance use.
Revathi, co-ordinator, Women Empowerment Committee welcomed the gathering. In Presidential address, Dr.Satheesh Kumar, Principal, elucidated how mental disorder affects individual and society. Preetha, Yuva Faculty Coordinator, proposed vote of thanks. Students actively participated in the session and got benefited.
