Rotary Club of Coimbatore Downtown has embarked on the “Limp 2 Run” project, a global grant initiative aimed at providing free arthroscopy surgeries for ligament injuries of the knee joint. This 40 Lakhs worth project is the second global grant project by RCD, in collaboration with Kochouseph Thomas Chittilappilly Direct Term Gift and Rotary Club of Germantown (Memphis), USA.
Under the leadership of Rtn.Sundar, President (22-23), RCD, and Chairman Rtn. Godwin, the project focuses on two categories: financially weak sportsmen whose careers have been derailed by ligament injuries, and economically disadvantaged individuals facing hindrances in their daily lives. The first beneficiary, Rajdurai, a welder and kabaddi player from Annur, has successfully undergone surgery and regained mobility.
The process involves potential beneficiaries identifying ligament tears through scans and informing the RCD Project Chairman and team for evaluation at VGM Hospital. A thorough background check ensures financial need, and upon meeting criteria, patients become eligible for free surgery, covering all expenses from pre-operation procedures to post-surgery recovery.
The project, initiated last year, continues this year with the support of Governor Rtn Vijayakumar (RID 3201), President Rtn.Mohanraj, Rtn. Guhan, Secretary and Vignesh, Treasurer of RCD. The Project Co-Chairman Rtn. Shyam will be the President of Rotary year 24-25. Rtn Dr.Suman of VGM Hospital and Rtn. Sumit were actively managed The documentation process.
The launch event on Nov. 21st, 2023, at GV Hall, Cosmopolitan Club, Coimbatore, witnessed Chief Guest Governor Rtn. Vijaykumar, and Guest of Honor Balakrishnan, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore. The project’s success is attributed to the collaboration of various key figures, including Rtn Dr. Mohanprasad and Rtn Dr. Suman, who played pivotal roles in its execution.
