38th National Junior Athletics Championship kicks off in Cbe

Coimbatore hosts the 38th National Junior Athletics Championships at Nehru Stadium from November 7 to 10, 2023.

The stadium was initiated by former Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi in 1971. Under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s guidance, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu transformed the infrastructure to world-class standards.

Latha, Secretary of Tamil Nadu Athletic Association along with Leema Rose Martin, President of Coimbatore District Athletic Association addressed the press in the inaugural event. Latha stated that the Nehru Stadium has been revamped with a new synthetic track and runways to host the Junior Nationals.

With 2,200 athletes from 29 states, including 175 from Tamil Nadu, participating in eight age categories, the Junior Nationals promise exciting competition. The event was inaugurated on November 7, with Muthusamy, the Minister for Housing and Urban Development flagging off the March Past.

Athletes like Yogeswar(3000m), Yuvaraj(Triple Jump), Vedhapriyan(Decathlon), Selva Prabu(Triple Jump), Abinaya(100m), Ruthika(100m&200m), Kanista Teena Maria(400m)and Pavithra(400m Hurdles) from Tamil Nadu, who excelled internationally, will showcase their talent.

Notable attendees included W.I. Davaram, President of Tamilnadu Athletic Association, and Adille J Sumariwalla, President of Athletics Federation of India, Kranthi Kumar Pati, District Collector, Balakrishnan, Commissioner of Police graced the inaugural event.
