Ishita Kishore Secures Top Rank in UPSC

In a ground-breaking achievement, female candidates have once again emerged as the toppers in the highly prestigious Civil Services Examination 2022 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The final results, announced today, reveal that Ishita Kishore has secured the All India Rank (AIR) 1, followed closely by Garima Lohia, Uma Harathi, and Smriti Mishra who secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Ishita Kishore, Lohia and Mishra are Delhi University graduates. Harathi is a B.Tech degree holder from IIT-Hyderabad. There are 14 women and 11 men in the top 25 candidates this year.

This remarkable feat marks the second consecutive year that women candidates have clinched the top three positions in one of India’s most challenging and sought-after examinations. The UPSC Civil Services Examination is conducted annually in three stages, namely Prelims, Main, and Interview (personality test), to select officers for prestigious services such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other central services group A and B posts.

Out of the total 933 candidates recommended for appointment to these services after undergoing the rigorous selection process, 345 candidates belong to the general category, 99 candidates are from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 263 candidates are from the Other Backward Classes (OBC), 154 candidates are from the Scheduled Castes (SC), and 72 candidates are from the Scheduled Tribes (ST). The commission has noted that the candidature of 101 recommended candidates is provisional, subject to verification.
