Citizen’s Voice Club in a letter to the Railway Minister highlighted the difficulties faced by commuters following the delay of trains classified as superfast express which are running late on a regular basis and seldom reaches on time. If that be the case, such trains cover less than normal express trains of speed. The delay increase the mental agony because upon reaching the destinations the connecting bus, train or flight can likely be missed out.
The superfast express category charges should be refunded to the passengers account. In case for technical reasons, it is not possible to refund by identifying the consumer’s account , such extra surcharge collected should not be retained but credited to Consumer Welfare Fund of the State (if the train is intra state) and Central consumer welfare fund account if the train is inter-state express train. This system of compensating the flight passengers has been ordered by the Civil Aviation Minister recently.
