“Correct treatment to Vertigo can be life-changing”

SRH launches Covai’s 1st Vertigo Diagnosis & Treatment center

It is alarming to know that over 15% of Indian population experience some form of Vertigo and dizziness caused due to balance disorders, and yet the awareness about this condition or its diagnosis and treatment has not reached the larger population.

Vertigo is a sign of a condition that can make one feel like the environment around is spinning or moving when in fact, there is no such movement at all. People suffering vertigo will experience unsteadiness/imbalance, a feeling of spinning often when bending down, when handing something upwards, turning in bed, etc.

This sensation can interfere with the daily activities of an individual, and it becomes extremely difficult for them to perform the simplest of tasks. This can also cause the victim to fall and get injured.

NeuroEquilibrium is a pioneer in diagnosing and treating Vertigo. Its Clinical Director, Dr. Anita Bhandari, who was in Coimbatore recently shared that vertigo is prevalent in both the rural and urban areas.  She expressed that age is no factor here when it comes to being affected with vertigo. She said that the youngest patient she has come across with Vertigo was around 4 years of age, and the highest was 97.

Speaking about the causes she said it can occur due to about 40 different diseases of the inner ear, the brain and the central nervous system. While it can be present in both men and women, Dr.Anita shared that women are slightly more likely to get it than men.

While it appears dangerous, on a positive note, she said that with the correct treatment, this condition can be managed greatly, and even be cured.

“Problem is that people think that there is no cure for this. They just think that they have to live with it, and when they have it, take medicines. This goes on for years and affects their whole life,” she opined. She underlined that identifying the root cause of vertigo and providing correct treatment in the form of medicine and rehabilitation can bring a significant difference and improvement in the lives of patients.

Dr.Anita’s company NeuroEquilibrium Diagnostic Systems has introduced the finest medical infrastructure to diagnose and treat vertigo in the last 5 years. Recognizing the pioneering works done by NeuroEquilibrium in different parts of the country and beyond our borders, Swathy Rohit who currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, Coimbatore took efforts to set up a super-speciality diagnosis and treatment centre for the evaluation and treatment of vertigo and balance disorders at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital (SRH).

This specialized vertigo clinic is the 150 centre for NeuroEquilibrium. The clinic utilizes advanced diagnostic equipment to diagnose and treat all causes of dizziness and balance disorders with customized medical treatment and vestibular rehabilitation after diagnosing the underlying cause of vertigo and balance disorders to ensure better outcomes.

The treatments vary for patients, as a series of tests have to be done first to find out what is the cause of vertigo. It will be in sessions, and the testing takes 1.5 hours, they are totally non-invasive (no cuts or punctures). Imaging equipment will be placed to monitor the nerve activity in the head and ear region, and after that, the right mode of treatment will be recommended. Dr.Anita shared that half of her patients do not require much medication at all.

The launch took place on Friday at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in the presence of  D.Lakshminarayanaswamy, Managing Trustee, R.Sundar, Joint Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, Rajneesh Bhandari, MD of NeuroEquilibrium, Dr.Sukumaran, Dean, Dr.Ashokan, Chief Neurologist and C.V. Ramkumar, CEO, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital.
