Winter Olympics to begin on Feb.4, Arif Khan is India’s sole hope!

Winter Olympics, the prestigious mega event for sports practised on ice and snow will begin on February 4 in Beijing, China and go on till Feb.20th.

Totally 7 sports (including Skiing, Snowboard, Skating, Ice Hockey, Ski Jumping) with 15 disciplines will take place at different venues, this year.

Keeping in mind the pandemic, China had already implemented its Zero Covid approach, and in the wake of a recent outbreak in Fengtai district, it is subjecting 2 million people in that district to undergo covid testing. Strict measures have been put into effect in Beijing, to conduct the Winter Olympics in a safer manner.

The Winter Olympics shall be declared open by President of China Xi Jinping, and international leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM of Pakistan Imran Khan are expected to attend.

The Only Indian at the Winter Olympics

Mohammed Arif Khan is the only Indian to enter the Winter Olympics this year. He hails from Jammu& Kashmir, and he is an Alpine Skier. He has been into competitive skiing since he was 10 years old, and over the years, he has won several national and international awards.

“I want to put my country on the skiing map,”… “If I can achieve something, the global skiing community will take note of where I am from. It might make them see India as a potential top skiing destination,” he told The Hindu.
