“Tamil Nadu has administered highest no. of covid vaccines in India, and our Chief Minister M.K.Stalin is taking all efforts to fight covid in our State. While education is important for children’s future, their health is also equally important. Saving young children today, is equal to saving the future’s Kalaignars (artist), scientists and officials,” said School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi.

He said this at the launch of Gem Hospitals dedicated Pediatric Liver and Kidney Transplant center on Children’s Day 2021.

Minister Anbil Mahesh was the Chief Guest, and did the inauguration of the center in the presence of Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman, Gem Hospital, Dr. Nirmala, Dean, CMCH and Dr. Sameeran, District Collector, Coimbatore.

Thousands wait for organs:

While thousands of children require organs via donation, only hundreds of them receive them and get it transplanted. Due to financial constraints, and lack of awareness many kids fail to get organ transplantation procedure done in time.

Dr. Palanivelu said that under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, lives of 5 children were saved by the hospital during the peak of covid-19 pandemic.

He shared that awareness about organ donation and organ transplant should be made in rural sides. He said some parents have fears about donating their own liver, thinking it will create great risks in their life, and they wait for others to donate. He said the public in rural areas should be made aware of value of timely transplants and organ donation, and Gem Hospital will take efforts to do that in the future.

Know what’s the best for your child:

Dr. Nirmala shared that even teen aged kids are facing kidney problems and many require transplants. She wanted the parents to know where can they get quality care, and what kind of treatment can provide good care, and which won’t!

Charity of a Child:

30 years ago, a child with blood cancer received treatment from Dr. Ramasamy who is now an advisor to Masonic Hospital, Coimbatore.

The doctor treated the child and for 2 years it was normal but on the third year after the treatment, it fell sick and perished. The parents of the child, handed over Rs. 25000 to Dr.Ramasamy and urged him to use it to benefit children.

With that, Masonic Hospital, Coimbatore came into this world, and is still run by the donations from generous guardians of the society.

30 years ago, it had one part time consultant working for just 50 paise as salary for a day, and provided medical consultations in a humble way but now the generosity of donors has helped it serve 60,000 children. Totally 150 support staff and 16 full time doctors work here.

Dr. Ramasamy applauded the initiatives taken by Gem Hospital for children’s health care needs, and accepted the honor bestowed upon him.

Focused on Future & Health of kids:

Minister Anbil Mahesh applauded Dr. Palanaivelu and Gem for saving the life of a 6 months old infant that need liver transplant. He appreciated the hospital for launching the new multi organ transplant center.

He said that he attended this program not because Dr. Palanivelu was a friend of his father but this program is meant for children. He said by launching these new centers, Gem Hospital has prepared itself well to cater to the Health care needs of children.

He stated that it is true that awareness about organ donation and transplant is less, and urged doctors to take the awareness to people while the Govt of Tamil Nadu will surely be with people when they need CM Health Insurance Scheme.

He shared that Chief Minister consults lots of Public Health Department officials and other departments’ heads before thinking of opening schools. Every step taken by Education Ministry and government keeps in mind about Children’s Health and future.
