Former IPS Officer Annamalai to join BJP

Former IPS Officer Annamalai, popularly known as the Singam of Udupi is reported to join BJP on Tuesday morning in the presence of BJP Leaders.

While speaking to The News Minute about this news, Annamalai said “I closely align with the larger vision of the BJP. I will have an opportunity to be in the party and help grow the party in Tamil Nadu,” he said, adding,”I see I am a natural fit there (in BJP).”

When asked why he did not join any Dravidian parties, he said “I also felt that the Dravidian parties are not true to their original mission of bringing about change. The ideals of Annadurai, Periyar and MGR were different from the ideals of today’s leaders,”

Annamalai was born in Karur, Tamil Nadu and got educated at PSG Tech, Coimbatore and IIM, Lucknow. He was a 2011 batch IPS officer and served in Udupi, Karnataka. He was promoted to SP and he cracked down criminal activities that happened in coastal areas of Udipi which earned his the moniker Singam. He quit in 2019 citing personal reasons. There were some speculation that he could support Rajnikanth earlier.
